Multi-Point radios are typically used to receive or “collect” radio signals (and therefore data) from a number of remotely sited radio units. In CCTV terms, this could be a widespread cluster of cameras, or indeed a whole system (if bandwidth and other factors are not exceeded). This is in contrast to the single-link nature of a Point to Point system. A good example of this would be 5 11n Micro units transmitting back to a single BRIDGE or BRIDGE XT unit. SilverNet manufacture two purpose-built units for this application - the BRIDGE and BRIDGE XT, allowing data throughputs of up to 95Mbps or 240Mbps respectively. In CCTV terms, the XT unit could allow more cameras per, or higher quality/ resolution streams from the same number of cameras.
A Point-to-Point (PTP) link is just as it sounds - two radio transceivers communicating together to form a single wireless link, across which can be transmitted data, typically a network stream of images from a single CCTV camera, or the output of a network switch carrying several streams from a cluster of CCTV cameras.  A good example of this would be a configured pair of 11n Micro units providing a 95Mbps throughput between two points, where infrastructure cabling is either too costly or impossible. SilverNet manufacture a variety of highly flexible and versatile Point-to-Point links, covering a wide range of applications and distances. High actual data throughputs allow more cameras and/or higher stream resolutions and frame rates than other competitive radio links. A typical installation may use several PTP radio transceivers to transmit to a single Multi Point radio, bringing data from widespread remote camera locations to one single reception site. This is known as a POINT TO MULTIPOINT (PTMP) system. Details of Multi Point units can be found in a later section.
